Nowadays it is almost a regular question that how to do e-commerce SEO. That is why I am writing this article.
Ecommerce SEO is something different from blog website SEO. Actually all different websites require different SEO strategies.
In this article I am sharing my SEO strategy for e-commerce website.
Like all other website’s SEO, e-commerce SEO also has 3 parts:
- On Page SEO
- Technical SEO
- Off Page SEO
On Page SEO for Ecommerce Website
On page SEO for e-commerce website divides into 3 basic parts:
- Products description
- Product gallery
- Meta Description
The most important part of on-page SEO for an e-commerce website is a keyword search. The keywords for blog and e-commerce are not the same.
Your product is a t-shirt. For this product, your keyword should be specific. Add your product material to your keyword. If your product material is 100% cotton, your keyword should be 100% cotton t-shirt.
Now add the target group to your keyword. If your target group is ladies, then your keyword should be 100% cotton women’s t-shirt.
Now check the t-shirt specification. Is it short sleeve or long sleeve, round neck or “V” neck, fancy or casual?
Say, your product is short sleeve, round neck and fancy t-shirt.
Now add the specification to your keyword. So, your keyword should be “100% cotton short sleeve round neck fancy women’s t-shirt”
In e-commerce, SEO keywords should be long tail so that consumers can get an idea about the products.
The product description is another important part of on-page SEO for an e-commerce website. You can’t write a big story like a blog website, in the product description part of an e-commerce website.
You should write product descriptions as much as elaborate as you can. Naturally, an e-commerce product description contains 200 to 300 words. It is also ok if your description words are less than 200 words.
You are selling t-shirt. Here, what should be your product description?
Write about your product material, weight, design, size range, available colors, targeted customers, comfort, etc.
You can add a FAQ section here.
In the e-commerce SEO, product gallery plays a vital role in getting traffic engagement.
You are selling a t-shirt. Now whatever colors and sizes you have in a design, you should display all those images in your product gallery.
Ecommerce Meta description should represent your product. Write a short description of why people should buy your product within 150 characters.
In the technical part of ecommerce SEO contains the followings:
- Page load speed
- Mobile friendly
- Voice search compatible
- Consumer’s review
Page Load Speed
Page load speed is a very important part of e-commerce SEO. The online platform is such a type of area where consumers have a lot of options to buy products. So, if your page takes few milliseconds than other websites, consumers will jump to those websites.
So, you should maintain a good page load speed. Your hosting can play a vital role in maintaining a good page load speed.
Ecommerce websites use a lot of product images. That is why all of your product images should be properly optimized. If your product range is very big and you are using a very space for your images, then my suggestion is to use different hosting for images.
If you use one hosting for your website and different hosting for your product images, then it will never be slowdown for image size.
Your e-commerce website should be mobile friendly as most of the people now using mobile for searching their requirement in the search engines.
You can use AMP plugin for making your website mobile friendly.
There is another smart option for making your e-commerce website popular with its consumers.
You can convert your website into a mobile app. Converting a website into a mobile app is not very costly and very easy to use.
When your consumers will find your website into an app they will be happy to use it and your ranking will increase.
Voice Search Compatible
Nowadays voice search is increasing. In 2021 it will be more than 50%. So, your product keywords should be voice search compatible When search engines will find your keywords in every search option like mobile search, pc search, apps, voice search, etc . the value of your e-commerce website will be very high to them. Search engines will be increased to send traffic to your website.
Consumer’s review is one of the most important parts of e-commerce SEO. So you should have a consumer’s review section for every single product on your e-commerce website. When the search engines find that consumer’s review is good for an e-commerce website, then the search engines give importance to the keywords of that e-commerce site. In this way, the consumer’s review helps to get ranking on the 1st page of the search engines.
Off Page SEO
For any type of website, off-page SEO strategy is important for increasing CTR. When your CTR will increase, your keywords will get ranking on the 1st page of the search engines. So, first, you should build an off-page SEO strategy.
Ecommerce website off-page SEO strategy should be a product base. If your e-commerce website is for a particular locality like New York, or for a particular country; say China or Bangladesh, then your off-page SEO strategy develops based on that locality. Let’s see how you can build your traffic funnels for your online products:
- Email marketing
- Social media marketing
- Press Release
- Guest blogging to your product-related portal
- Google My Business
Email marketing is a very effective and popular technique of building traffic funnel for an e-commerce website. You can send emails to your targeted audience with your promotional offers and product link. When the audiences feel that they need the product or your promotional offer is interesting, they will click on your link and will visit your e-commerce website.
You have to update all information on your products and send them to your targeted audiences regularly.
Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing is another popular and effective technique for off-page SEO of e-commerce websites.
When you are adding any new product or a new model of the existing products, you should publish it on your social platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. You can get many consumers from social media platforms. In this way, you can increase your CTR and can get the ranking on the 1st page of your keywords on the search engines.
The press release is a very good technique for off-page SEO. You can build traffic funnels through a press release.

These types of press releases will also increase your domain authority.
Guest Blogging to Your Product Related Portal
Guest blogging is the best way of off-page SEO. But it should be in a proper way. Then you can get a very good result.
Your e-commerce website is selling grocery products. Now if you do guest blogging to a news website or fashion blog, it will not work. You have to do guest blogging to your product-related portal. Then you will get a very good result. You can grow your traffic funnels as well as domain authority.
Google My Business
Most of the e-commerce sites are serving in a particular area and Google My Business or GMB is very helpful for that e-commerce SEO.
GMB is for those e-commerce websites that are serving in a particular locality like New York, Paris, Delhi, or only for a particular country like the USA, UK, Singapore, etc.
GMB is Google’s business page like the Facebook business page. If your e-commerce business is serving within a city or a country, just make your Google My Business page for your e-commerce website and start posting your products. You will get a good number of viewers on your website through GMB.
